 En celebracion del 80vo aniversario de la obra de Luis Buñeul y Salvador Dalí Un Chien Andalou,
la Sociedad de Cineastas Independientes de Calgary (CSIF por su sigla en ingles) esta invitando a
inscribir trabajos de “media art” basados en el tema del Surrealismo, para explorar la evolucion de este
movimiento dentro del arte. En procura de mantener nuestro mandato, pelicula deber haber sido usada
en los trabajos inscritos, ya sea en etapa de produccion o post-prroduccion.
Desde sus inicios, el Surrealismo ha transgredido nuestro discurso tradicional sobre el arte y ha
funcionado como catalizador para desarrollar la cooperacion entre artistas. A su vez extendio las
fronteras, motivando practicas colaborativas, pensameinto inconciente e irreverencia por la idea de que
el individuo tiene completo control sobre su trabajo. Este proyecto se identifica con las raices del
Surrealismo, buscando trabajos que respondan con la tradicion del movimiento y estructurando un
proyecto con base en un “todo” conformado por partes individuales. Buscamos trabajos de artistas que
aseguren la diversidad del pensamiento artistico, y a su vez permitan la existencia de lazos de similitud

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
In celebration of the 80th anniversary of Luis Buñeulʼs and Salvador Dalíʼs Un Chien Andalou, the
CSIF is inviting media arts submissions based on the theme of Surrealism to explore the evolution of this
movement in art. In keeping with our mandate, works submitted should have film used in either the
production and/or post-production stage.
From its early development, Surrealism has transgressed our traditional discourse about art and
worked to develop communal cooperation. It worked to extend its boundaries by encouraging
collaborative practices, unconscious thinking and irreverence for the idea that the individual has complete
control over their work. This project resonates with the early roots of Surrealism by seeking works that
respond to the traditions of the movement, and by curating an overall project by making a whole out of
individual parts. We seek work from media artists to ensure diversity from individual artistic thought while
still allowing for unconscious threads of similarity to appear in the true spirit of Surrealism.
SELECTION PROCESS
Comprised of media artists, the CSIF Programming Committee will select works for exhibition
from submitted entries. Entries are judged on their creative content in relation to the theme as well as
their contribution to the whole program. We especially encourage artists from Spanish-speaking
background to submit their work.
SUBMISSIONS
The CSIF pays artist fees for all works selected for the screening and provides a professional
environment for presenting media art works. If selected, all works will be presented on the format
preferred by the artist.
Send a DVD preview copy (NTSC, DVD Region 1 format) and completed submission form to the
CSIF before the deadline of July 31, 2008. Label the DVD clearly with the title, name of filmmaker and
running time. No entry fee is required, but the DVD will not be returned unless you enclose a selfaddressed
stamped envelope.
Submissions must include:
• Name of Artist
• Artist Contact information
• Film Title
• Format of work
• Running Time
• Any special projection instructions
• Description of Work (100 – 250 words)
• Artist Statement
• Use of film in project

Santana en Concierto en Calgary, Alberta. Santana nacio en Julio de 1947, en Autlán de Navarro, Mexico. Su padre Jose fue un violinista profesional y Carlos aprendio a tocar la guitarra desde los 8 anos. Su musica de estilo unico tuvo grandes exitos en los 1970's y 1980's como Amigos (1976) and Zebop (1981).

Santana,guitarist. Born July 20, 1947, in Autlán de Navarro, Mexico. His father, Jose, was an accomplished professional violinist, and Carlos learned to play the guitar at age 8.Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, Santana and his band released a string of successful albums in their unique style. Notable albums of this time period included Amigos (1976) and Zebop (1981).

Este jovencísimo concertista de guitarra flamenca posee unas extraordinarias facultades y una impresionante técnica. A su corta edad (nació el 25.12.1988) ha obtenido algunos de los premios más prestigiosos del panorama nacional, tales como los que se relacionan a continuación :

- 1º premio en el II Certamen “ATENEO DE CÓRDOBA”. (Córdoba, 2002).       

- 1º premio “PACO DE LUCENA”, en Lucena, (Córdoba, 2002).       

- 1º premio en el VI Certamen Internacional de Guitarra Flamenca “CIUDAD DE JAÉN”, (Jaén, 2003).       

- 1º premio en el XXIV Concurso Nacional de Guitarra Flamenca “TORRE DEL CANTE”. Alhaurín de la Torre (Málaga, 2004).       

- Premio “BORDÓN MINERO”, en el XLIV Festival Internacional del “CANTE DE LAS MINAS”. La Unión (Murcia 2004).       

Su aprendizaje se inició a la edad de cuatro años bajo la tutela de su padre José Antonio Conde, tocaor profesional de gran estima y relieve en el ámbito flamenco y discípulo del maestro Andrés Batista.

Theatre Flamenco Concerts and Knight Productions present Flamenco Guitar Virtuoso Javier Conde and Ensemble direct from Spain. The now 19-year old (born Caceres, Spain 1988) has been known for several years as Spain's national prodigy of the flamenco guitar.Trained by his father, Jose Antonio Conde, and Grandmaster Andres Batista, he has been performing on stage since the age of eight. In 2003 he recorded his first CD that got him invited to the biggest festivals in Europe. Now at the age of 19, Javier is playing at the same level that Pace de Lucia (regarded as the best in the world) played at the same age. His recent live album was nominated for best flamenco album by the Academia de Musica in Madrid, and he is invited to play at the famous Sevilla Biennale this year. Discover him for yourself on his Canadian debut tour with his extraordinary ensemble of guitarists, singer and dancer.

La Asociación Literaria Hispanoamericana de Calgary, presenta las bases para el concurso de poesía que se llevará acabo en dos categorías: Jóvenes, de 17 a 30 años, y adultos, mayores de esa edad. El concurso queda abierto desde el momento en que se publiquen estas bases y se cierra el 30 de septiembre de 2008.

Every day Alberta is becoming more and more multicultural. The cultural adaptation goes two ways, both need to know the differences. Business men and women who know how to understand these cultural differences have a competitive advantage. During this seminar we will be exploring how the culture can influence the different businesses in Alberta, how the different cultures can affect the relationships with clients, potential and existing.

ELEGIBILIDAD
· 16mm o Super 8 film menos de 22 minutos
· Tiene que proveer un corte de 16mm o Super 8 para la exhibición del festival.
· Fecha de divulgación oficial después del 1ro de Diciembre, 2006
· Formatos de Audio aceptados:
· 16mm con sonido óptico
· Cinta magnética Super 8
· Disco Compacto sincronizado
TÉCNICO
· Banda Sonora en Disco Compacto debe ser acompañada con instrucciones detalladas para sincronizar.
· Films deben tener por lo menos 10 pies de cinta en blanco.
· Cada film debe ser etiquetado con la velocidad del film (18 or 24 fps), duración, título y nombre del cineasta.
· Films deben ser sometidos con la cinta preparada desde el principio y claramente etiquetado.
PROCESO DE SELECCIÓN
El comité de programación del festival selecciona films para la exhibición en el festival de los films sometidos y
un jurado de artistas y profesionales independientes de la comunidad de cine local seleccionara los ganadores.
Las entradas seran juzgadas por su contenido creativo y también por mantener el espíritu de el cine
independiente.
El Festival de Cine de $100 paga honorarios para todos los trabajos seleccionados para el festival. Si vuestro
film es seleccionado para exhibición, se le pediría que mande una copia a las oficinas de la CSIF
aproximadamente un mes antes del festival. El Festival de Cine de $100 tratara de evitar cualquier daño pero
hace ninguna garantía. Al terminar el festival, su film sera devuelto por correo pre-pagado (con la excepción de
cineastas en Calgary, quienes estaran disponibles para recoger acá)

ELIGIBILITY
• 16mm or Super 8 film under 22 minutes
• Must be able to provide 16mm or Super 8 print for Festival exhibition
• Official release date after December 1, 2006
• Accepted Audio Formats:
• 16mm with optical sound
• Super 8 mag. stripe
• Properly synced CD
TECHNICAL
• CD soundtracks must be accompanied by detailed syncing instructions
• Films should have at least 10 feet of white leader
• Each film must be clearly labeled with running speed (18 or 24 fps), length, title and name of filmmaker
• Films must be submitted head out and leaders clearly labeled
SELECTION PROCESS
The Festival Programming Committee selects films for exhibition at the Festival from submitted entries, and a
separate jury of artists and professionals from the film community selects award recipients. Entries are judged
on their creative content, but also on the ability to maintain the spirit of low-budget filmmaking.
The $100 Film Festival pays artist fees for all works selected for the festival. If your film is selected for exhibition,
you will be asked to ship A FILM PRINT to the CSIF approximately one month before the Festival. The $100
Film Festival will make every attempt to avoid any damage to your film, but cannot provide any guarantee. At the
completion of the Festival, your film will be shipped back to you, pre-paid (with the exception of filmmakers in
Calgary whose films will be available for pick-up).
SUBMISSIONS
Send a VHS or DVD preview copy (NTSC, DVD Region 1 format) and completed submission form to the CSIF
before the deadline of 4pm – December 2, 2008. Label the VHS or DVD clearly with the title, name of
filmmaker and running time. If you are entering more than one film, you may compile them on to one VHS or
DVD, but a separate entry form must be submitted for each film. No entry fee is required, but the VHS or DVD
will not be returned unless you enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope.
Extracts and stills from selected films may be used to advertise the Festival in local print, radio or television
media, and on the Festival web site. Distribution information is collected to be included in program guide and
web site.
Important note for entries from outside of Canada:
Label packages "Cultural Purposes. No Commercial Value." The CSIF will not pay any shipping or duty
charges.
